A Cratered Black Glaze

The reactive glaze boils during firing and cools into a field of pits and craters, charcoal in the depths with pale gray crust on the raised edges. Because these are handmade ceramic planters, the pattern never repeats, and no two ceramic pots in the set match.

Low, Wide, and Straight-Sided

The wall runs straight from a plain rim to a slight step at the base, no taper and no collar. Each piece sits wider than it stands, so the planting reads as the tall element and the vessel stays a plinth beneath. The low stance also keeps the set steady on windy decks.

Where They Work and What to Plant

Dark glaze pushes foliage forward, so plant for color: croton, coleus, or caladium in shade, agave or blue fescue in sun. As ceramic plant pots they suit compact root systems rather than shrubs. Set them along a pool coping or at the base of a stair.

Used as garden planters in a bed, the black texture sits well against gravel, and as ceramic garden planters they hold up beside concrete and corten steel. These are outdoor planters first, though the smallest moves indoors.
