The Amphora Shape at Tabletop Scale
The Amphora Pot planter is a small hand-built vessel from our Tuscan Sun collection, carrying the outline of an ancient shipping jar at a size that fits on a table.
Shoulder, Neck, Flared Lip
The body rounds out to a broad shoulder, then draws in to a short neck that finishes in a lip rolled outward like a collar. Below the shoulder the wall falls away to a base narrower than the mouth. Most amphora vessels are floor-standing pieces. This one is not, and that is the point: an Amphora planter you can pick up with one hand puts a classical silhouette somewhere you would normally have nothing.
Chalk White Over Red Clay
A pale lime-colored wash covers the surface, worn thin across the shoulder and around the lip so red-brown clay comes through in patches. Grit and pitting sit in the finish, and the interior stays unglazed terracotta, visible the moment you look into the mouth. Every piece leaves the workshop in an aged color assortment, so no handcrafted ceramic planter here matches the next, and as a Tuscan style planter the whole appeal is that it looks salvaged rather than new.
Where to Put It
A console table, a windowsill, a stair tread, a side table under a pergola. As a small outdoor planter it belongs under cover rather than out in open rain, and as a small garden planter it works best raised, on a wall or a bench, where the silhouette shows against a plain background. Used as a decorative outdoor planter on an entry table it needs nothing in it. Pair it with the full-size Ancient Amphora Large Planter for scale contrast, or browse our Tuscan Sun collection.
Know More About Amphora Pot
What is an amphora pot?
What is an amphora pot?
An amphora was a two-handled clay jar used across the ancient Mediterranean to ship wine, oil, and grain. Modern versions borrow the silhouette, rounded shoulder and narrow base, without the handles or the storage job.
What can you plant in a small amphora planter?
What can you plant in a small amphora planter?
Dried stems are the best use, since the narrow neck holds branches upright without a frog or foam. Lavender, eucalyptus, and bare twigs all suit the aged finish. For living plants, treat this small ceramic planter as a cachepot and sit a small nursery liner inside the mouth.
Can a small ceramic planter stay outside all year?
Can a small ceramic planter stay outside all year?
Keep it under a porch rather than in open weather. A ceramic garden pot this size holds too little soil to shrug off a hard freeze wet, so bring it in once nights drop below freezing and tip out standing water first.
How do you style it?
How do you style it?
Odd numbers and varied heights. One on its own reads as an object, three at different levels read as a collection. Keep the arrangement sparse, two or three stems rather than a full bunch, so the shoulder and lip stay visible.
