Hexagon Handformed Planter - Lava Glaze Over Bare Dark Clay
The Hexagon Handformed Planter is a small indoor vessel from our drop-in range, finished in Lava White, where a thick crawling glaze stops partway down and leaves the clay below bare.
The Glaze Is the Product
Lava glaze thickens and bubbles in the kiln, then cools into a crust of craters, blisters, and raised ridges, chalk white over dark clay that shows through every opening. Across the upper body it looks closer to cooled rock than pottery, then stops on a clean horizontal line.
The lower third stays unglazed espresso brown, matte and rough where it was shaped by hand. That contrast is the whole idea, and because the glaze crawls differently every firing, each one is a unique indoor planter in the literal sense.
Hand Formed, Six Sided
The facets are subtle rather than sharp. Six shallow planes run around the body and meet at soft corners, and the rim is left uneven where the maker's hands finished it. A ceramic indoor planter made this way is never perfectly symmetrical, which is why it reads as a studio piece rather than a production pot.
Two Sizes, Single or by the Case
Both sizes come on their own or by the case, which suits offices, events, or gifting several at once. As a small indoor planter the medium fits a desk or shelf, while the larger size takes a fuller plant and works alone on a side table.
Where to Put It
A desk, a bookshelf, a bathroom counter, a sill. As a modern indoor planter it works best against plain surfaces, since the texture needs a quiet background to read. As a decorative indoor planter it holds its own beside books or ceramics, and as a decorative planter left empty it passes for a small sculpture. Pair it with the faceted Geometry Pentagon Planter, or browse our drop-in planters.
Know More About Hexagon Handformed Planter
What is a lava glaze?
What is a lava glaze?
A glaze formulated to bubble and crawl rather than lie flat. Gases escaping during firing leave craters and raised crust behind, and the glaze pulls back in places to expose the clay. No two pieces come out the same, which is the appeal.
What plants suit a planter like this?
What plants suit a planter like this?
Something plain. The container is busy, so one simple plant beats a mixed arrangement: a snake plant, a small ZZ, a haworthia, or pothos trailing over one edge. As an indoor plant pot it suits anything in a small nursery size.
How should I water it?
How should I water it?
Keep the plant in its nursery liner and lift it out to water, letting it drain before setting it back. A textured glaze holds water in its craters, so avoid pouring down the outside and wipe spills rather than letting them dry on the crust.
Will my pot look like the photo?
Will my pot look like the photo?
Close, not identical. Glaze colors vary piece to piece and the crawl pattern never repeats. Ask us for photos of the exact pot before it ships if the finish matters.
